From the racetracks of Kentucky to the North Pole, Windy takes her assignments seriously. A cable arrived this week—yes, Santa is old school and likes to avoid the internet when delivering secure and confidential information—calling our wonder horse back into service. Apparently, Rudolph had a runny nose, and given the public health concerns of recent flu strains raised by our friend U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health Dr. Brett Giroir, Santa wanted to be extra cautious this year. The hooves you might hear on your rooftop this year will be a little heavy, Windy is wearing new shoes and at 1,100 pounds she weighs a bit more than those reindeer from the north pole.
If you follow Crosswind on social media and tune into #WindyWednesdays, you know we rescued Windy from a kill pen where she was likely bound for slaughter in Mexico. This is a plight facing thousands of horses each year, from former racehorses to free range mustangs.
You can learn more about these horses and one particular herd’s thousand-mile journey to freedom as told in the movie Unbranded, produced by and starring a group of Texas A&M students.
