Austin-based agency earns prestigious O’Dwyer’s ranking as #1 healthcare agency in state for second consecutive year, named in the top 50 nationally for healthcare PR firms

For the second consecutive year, Crosswind Media & Public Relations is ranked the #1 public relations agency for healthcare communications in Texas by J.R. O’Dwyer Company, an online and print news publication covering the public relations and marketing communications fields, that releases annual rankings of U.S. PR agencies. Crosswind is ranked 42nd for healthcare PR firms nationwide and moved up five spots to be recognized as the 97th largest PR firm nationally among all PR agencies and account service categories.

Transforming into a healthcare powerhouse

Crosswind launched a focused effort in healthcare in 2014, and in 2015 grew that practice considerably with the addition of leading medical and healthcare clients, including FUJIFILM Holdings America. Once synonymous for excellence in film product development, today Fujifilm is developing drugs that have the potential to reverse Alzheimer’s and to improve outcomes of patients with the toughest cancers including ovarian, colorectal, blood and pancreatic cancer. Fujifilm is also working in the field of regenerative medicine and stem cell research.

“Our growth in healthcare reflects an almost 60-percent year-over-year growth in the category thanks in no small part to our healthcare practice leader Angela Dejene and her team,” said Crosswind President and CEO Thomas Graham. “This vigorous yet manageable growth allows us to maintain our excellence in personalized client attention, channeling our clients’ passion for their businesses into tangible, bottom-line results.”

Continued growth in other practice areas

Crosswind also experienced notable growth in its corporate communications practice, serving global clients from the firm’s Austin-based headquarters.

“For many years, we have worked with the Crosswind team to build the Wincor Nixdorf brand in the U.S.,” said Javier Lopez-Bartolome, chairman of Wincor Nixdorf USA. “Their knowledgeable and experienced team of media veterans has helped us establish important relationships with key stakeholders in the financial services industry. Today, our company has a strong presence in the U.S.”

Staff additions lead Community Relations and Experiential Marketing

In 2015, Crosswind added two key players, growing its depth in media and expanding its experiential marketing expertise. Arnold Garcia, the former editorial page editor of the Austin American-Statesman, joined the agency to direct Hispanic and community relations strategies for Texas clients.

Noted Austin producer and musician Clayton Corn joined to direct Crosswind’s experiential marketing division, Crosswind Events + Experiences. Corn leads the agency in organizing events, strengthening brand affinity through experiences. Crosswind organized and hosted a regional concert to benefit the victims of the central Texas Memorial Day weekend floods. FloodAidTx included 32 bands performing over a 12-hour period, raising $250,000 for flood victim services.

“The large agencies will always be at the top of the overall rankings in terms of billings – we’re not chasing that,” said Graham. “We’ll continue broadening our reach based on our strengths and expertise, without losing sight of our overall vision for the agency.”
